BADAFF

19.03.2026 - 22.03.2026

On 19 March, it's time for BADAFF, the unique fair for collectible artworks and design objects. This year, we will once again be at the fair with a special preview of our reopening. Come and discover our new entrance gate, Freeze Frame 82.2.

Unfold – Freeze Frame 82.2

For the new wing of Design Museum Gent, Antwerp-based Unfold created Freeze Frame 82.2: a monumental work that immediately catches your eye as the entrance to the museum. It is a 3D-printed aluminium curtain that appears to move, but is frozen at one specific moment. That brief, charged moment just before the opening.

On the border between city and museum, the work functions as a soft, permeable boundary: revealing during the day, concealing at night. It represents an era in transition, in which design is invited to ask questions and help shape what is to come.

Special Design Projects in the renovated museum

Freeze Frame 82.2 is part of our Special Design Projects: a series of interventions embedded directly in the new wing. They are site-specific and exude material research, sustainability and social engagement. Curator Siegrid Demyttenaere brings together designers and artists who experiment with circular and surprising interventions.

The new wing will be a place where you will want to linger. An open space where you can look around, meet people, work, learn or just take a breather. You will find workshops, lectures, events and small presentations there. It is a vibrant platform that actively connects design and the city.

We will be opening our doors on 3 October 2026

That is when Design Museum Gent will reopen, with its new wing. We cannot wait to welcome you there.
